Invited presentation by Pierre Rouanet, Pollen Robotics, France:
Simplicity, Adaptability, and Homogeneity: Designing Robots for Natural Interactions

Pierre Rouanet
Pierre Rouanet did his phd in human-robot interaction in the Flowers lab at Inria. He spent a few years as a researcher where we participated to numerous robotics project such as the open source Poppy humanoid. He’s now the co-founder and CTO of Pollen Robotics, a 20 person company, that build accessible and open source technologies, especially known for the Reachy robot launched at CES2020.

In this presentation, we will explain how we design avatar systems and especially our focus on usability and user experience. We will argue that with simple and off-the-shelf components, one could build efficient and versatile systems that can already perform many tasks when remotely controlled. This will be illustrated by describing the design of our XPrize’s avatar.
